Las Vegas Philharmonic: Making Beautiful Music in the Desert
The Las Vegas Philharmonic played its first concert on July 4, 1998. The fireworks on the stage and also overhead not only celebrated Independence Day, but also affirmed the orchestra’s dedication to the residents of Las Vegas and the Southern Nevada region. Since then, the Las Vegas Philharmonic has continued and strengthened its commitment to help build a sense of community in Las Vegas, enrich the cultural lives of its residents and offer entertainment for businesses, hotels and casinos on and off the Strip. In March 2012, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, led by Music Director and Conductor David Itkin, celebrated its opening concert as the resident orchestra in the brand-new The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Las Vegas.

In its upcoming 2012–13 concert season, the Las Vegas Philharmonic will celebrate A Year in Pictures, showcasing multimedia productions that complement fabulous musical scores, such as Mussorgsky and Ravel’s Pictures From an Exhibition, Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights and Holst’s The Planets. The Las Vegas Philharmonic will showcase 10 performances within the Masterworks and Pops Series as well as feature the annual Youth Concerts Series in January for fourth and fifth grade students in the Clark County School District. For concert tickets and information, visit www.lvphil.com or call the Philharmonic at (702) 258-5438.

Beyond the concert hall, the Las Vegas Philharmonic has demonstrated its versatility and virtuosity by performing for the openings of the Bellagio and The Venetian resorts, premiering Star Wars: The Phantom Menace with guest conductor John Williams and accompanying international operatic superstars, such as Sarah Brightman, Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli. Many of the Philharmonic’s musicians engage in the vibrant entertainment life in Las Vegas, performing with headline entertainers and Broadway shows. From Bach to The Beatles and from Schubert to Sinatra, the Las Vegas Philharmonic performs a wide range of music, including Classical, Pops, Jazz, Chamber and Latin.

Whether you need music for a convention, an elegant business dinner or a lively cocktail party, the Las Vegas Philharmonic can tailor the size and style of the musical entertainment to accommodate your needs. Its embrace of a broad range of musical styles and genres makes these musicians a reflection of the diverse city of Las Vegas—bold and brilliant, creative and curious, artistic and adventuresome.
