Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah’s Entertainment Presents $80,000 Check to the Diabetes Research Institute During 24th Annual Labor of Love Golf Tournament in Miami Contribution brings company donations to the organization to over $700,000
For Immediate Release:

LAS VEGAS – March 30, 2009 –Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah’s Entertainment recently presented the Diabetes Research Institute with a check for $80,801 at the 24th Annual Labor of Love Golf Tournament, held in Miami on February 28. The contribution was the largest single donation the company has made to the organization in the 15 years that it has been supporting the event.

The Labor of Love Golf Tournament brings together labor movement leaders and sponsors from a variety of industries to participate in a golf tournament and awards reception to raise money for diabetes research. Since 1994, Harrah’s Entertainment has contributed nearly $700,000 to the Diabetes Research Institute at the event, donating one dollar for every room night booked by AFL-CIO union businesses across its seven Las Vegas properties, including Bally’s Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Las Vegas, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Imperial Palace, Paris Las Vegas and Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

“Giving back has always been a hallmark of our business, and it is more important now than ever,” said Michael Massari, vice president of meetings sales and operations for Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah’s Entertainment. “We really value our partnership with AFL-CIO and union labor, and this is one way for us to be a good partner to them while also supporting a worthy cause.”

The relationship between the Diabetes Research Institute and organized labor began in 1984, and the first annual Labor of Love tournament was held in 1986 as a way to increase donations to the research organization and support their quest to find a cure. This year’s tournament welcomed 144 participants and raised $212,000 for diabetes research. Labor of Love is one of over 50 fundraising events held throughout the year that benefits the Diabetes Research Institute.
