President Obama Comes to Caesars Palace for Fundraiser in First Visit to Las Vegas President Obama visited Las Vegas for a celebrity-packed fundraiser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Tuesday, May 26. By all accounts, the event – and the President’s stay at Caesars Palace – were a huge success.
The president joined entertainers Bette Midler and Sheryl Crow for a tribute concert to Reid and mentioned his stay at Caesars Palace during his speech saying, “I was telling people, I am back at Caesars. That was the hotel where we stayed at when we were campaigning here in Nevada. Thought I had a pretty nice room, but now that I’m President, they upgraded me, I got the upgrade and it’s a really nice room now.”
Obama is also reported to have told Caesars Palace GM John Unwin “I love staying at Caesars Palace.” Additionally, the head of the President’s Secret Service detail expressed that the hotels flexibility and performance as a property ranks at the top of any hotel they have worked with anywhere in the world.
The president’s visit further reinforces the importance and effectiveness of in-person meetings to advance important objectives.
Bette Midler Marks 100th Show in Las Vegas
On June 7, Bette Midler staged the 100th performance of The Showgirl Must Go On in Las Vegas. Midler's performance on Sunday kicked off a four-week run at the Caesars Palace Colosseum.
Midler has entertained Sin City with her brash humor, leggy Caesar Salad girls and bawdy gags since February 2008 in The Showgirl Must Go On. Critics have hailed The Showgirl Must Go On as "a razzle dazzle spectacular," according to Daily Variety. The Los Angeles Times proclaimed, "Bette Midler is brash, funny, schmaltzy, surprising, poignant, charming, provocative, witty, bawdy and, of course, divine," and the New York Daily News says Miss Midler "hits the jackpot" with the
biggest show of her career.
The Showgirl Must Go On is performed approximately 100 times a year, five nights per week at 7:30 p.m.; the show is dark on Mondays and Thursdays. The Harrah’s Foundation Donates $1.1 Million to AARP
On June 9, The Harrah's Foundation presented a $1.1 million gift to the AARP Foundation. AARP Foundation programs focus on education and service for Americans age 50 and older, with emphasis on those at social and economic risk. With help from over 35,000 volunteers nationwide, the AARP Foundation continues to assist millions of older Americans every day. The Harrah's Foundation gift will support many of the AARP Foundation's current care-giving programs, like WorkSearch, Prepare to Care, Benefits Outreach and Money Management, and will help caregivers meet their care-related responsibilities while building their own long-term financial security.
The gift was composed entirely of funds from The Harrah's Foundation, which are separate and apart from Harrah's Entertainment funds.
Harrah’s Entertainment Employees Come Together for Operation Camo Care Employees create and send 1,500 care packages to members of the armed forces. Employees from all seven Las Vegas Harrah’s Entertainment properties came together to submit thank you notes, donate care items and help assemble care packages for U.S. troops around the world this month. The company created 1,500 care packages for members of our armed forces and extra materials were donated to local military bases. Operation Camo Care is part of Harrah’s Entertainment’s employee volunteerism arm, H.E.R.O (Harrah’s Entertainment Reaching Out).
H.E.R.O is an employee-based volunteer program at all Harrah’s, Horseshoe, Rio, Showboat and Harvey’s properties. Volunteers make noteworthy, visible contributions to the community by devoting their time, skills, expertise and dedication to helping others. By actively participating in charitable and civic events, the H.E.R.O. team demonstrates that Harrah’s employees make a positive, real impact in our communitie.
Caesars Palace Boasts Location for #1 Movie at the Box Office, The Hangover Caesars Palace President Gary Selesner was guest of honor at the Hollywood premiere of The Hangover, which opened nationwide to rave reviews on June 5 and held the top spot at the box office for two weeks straight. The movie has since grossed over $200 million worldwide. The Warner Brothers’ comedy was shot on location for three months at Caesars Palace and tells of a wild-night bachelor party in Las Vegas gone wrong. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Heather Graham, Ed Helms and Justin
Bartha.
To commemorate the movie, Caesars Palace is offering Hangover packages for purchase. Included in the basic package is a $50 food and beverage credit applied to the room. Nightly room rates start at $120 with a two-night minimum. The Ultimate Hangover package includes a Double Bay suite with a $50 credit at Caesars Palace's new eatery, Serendipity III, where the credit can be used for the Hangover Breakfast Omelet. Harrah’s Entertainment Forms Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment New subsidiary to manage the global growth of the World Series of Poker® (WSOP) and explore European interactive expansion strategy. Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (Harrah’s) recently announced that it has established a new subsidiary, Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, Inc. (HIE) to manage the global growth of the World Series of Poker® and explore a European interactive strategy.
“As the world’s largest gaming company, Harrah’s is taking a proactive approach toward international and interactive expansion,” said Harrah’s Entertainment Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Loveman. “It is important we position ourselves to explore new markets as well as new technologies with our best in class brands.”
In addition to growing the World Series of Poker, HIE will explore the use of interactive gaming technologies to expand the reach of Harrah's brands globally, starting in Europe. The World Series of Poker, currently taking place at the Rio in its 40th year, has experienced record growth in the last five years.
Participants from 124 nations competed in last year’s tournament, up from 24 just five years ago and entrants have gone from 13,036 to 58,720 during the same span. The WSOP expanded into Europe in 2007 with the creation of the World Series of Poker Europe®, held each fall in London.
