BACKSTORY:

Johnny Brenden became a friend to Michael Jackson and his children during the last several years during Jackson’s stay in Las Vegas.

According to Johnny Brenden, Michael loved watching movies and especially the IMAX® in a public setting. Jackson had said in several interviews one of the things that was hardest about being such a high profile public figure was the opportunity to do things like watch movies in an actual movie theatre. At Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino Resort, Jackson and his children had the opportunity to be regular moviegoers.

Brenden would bring Jackson and his children in the rear entrance and seat them next to other theater goers. Jackson would get to enjoy a movie without disruption or interference. Jackson told Brenden he really enjoyed these experiences.

Over a several year period, Michael and Brenden spoke many times and Brenden, along with his personal publicist Jerry Olivarez, met with Jackson in his Las Vegas home along with his father, Joe Jackson. One of Brenden’s passions is the Brenden Celebrity Star which he created in honor of his late grandfather, Ted Mann to recognize outstanding achievements in entertainment. Brenden wanted to honor Jackson with a Brenden Celebrity Star of his own. Jackson accepted the Brenden Celebrity Star and was very excited about the prospect of receiving such an honor. Brenden and Jackson discussed the logistics of the Brenden Celebrity Star and other projects.

Jackson was especially interested in the IMAX® film format and Brenden and he had substantial dialogue on pursuing a project together. There had been discussion that following Jackson’s European tour that he might settle in Las Vegas for a permanent showcase. The plan was to present the Brenden Celebrity Star to Michael Jackson in conjunction with the announcement of such a show or other project.

Brenden stated that he thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the late musician and noted that Jackson’s children were always well behaved and a delight. Brenden is glad that he had the opportunity to bring a little normalcy to the late popstar’s life. Brenden stated, “You could see how Michael Jackson yearned for the chance to be just a regular moviegoer and to have such an experience most of us take for granted.”
