Planning a meeting in Las Vegas or attending a convention in Las Vegas and having to organize satellite events?
Trends for 2012: Keeping Current in a Mobile World
With music, it’s often a question of budget, and there are options at all price points. DJs may be a more budget-friendly choice, but consider the added elegance and atmosphere of live musicians. Hal Savar of Las Vegas-based Acoustic Soul musicians notes that although “a DJ is a known factor, there’s just something organic about real people performing.... It gives a whole new energy to the event.” Quality live performers are out there and just as customizable as DJ playlists, says Savar, who considers himself a “human jukebox” able to perform from a wide catalog of musical styles and selections. Prices for live musicians vary greatly depending on style and group size (consider an eight-piece band versus a solo acoustic guitarist), but options are available for any budget.

Of course, planners always can mix and match musical avenues to meet specific needs. Whatever the musical choice, make sure it reflects and produces the desired overall impression on guests to make your event a resounding success.

functional photography
In today’s world of digital photography and companies’ interactive Web presence, the possibilities are endless on how photographic services can impact an event.

Why photograph an event? For one, it’s great for publicity. After an event, photos can be posted on the event or company Web site to showcase accomplishments, attendees or garner interest for the following year if it is an annual affair. Getting action shots for an event or candid and portrait shots of attendees and keynote presenters also adds dimensionality to how an event is seen from outside.

When considering event photography, know that there are different kinds of photographers available with diverse skill sets, levels and offerings. The photographer shooting overview shots of a room or event may have different equipment or lighting needs than one shooting groups of people in the crowd or presenter portraits. When arranging for photography at an event, also make sure lighting is adequate or can be adjusted so the results are worth the price. Often focal points like presenters or performers will be lit appropriately so no flashes are needed, but that’s not always the case for other kinds of shots you might want or need.

Another popular photography trend that can be fun or formal is setting up an instant-share photo booth or guest portrait area with a backdrop. Here, guests can gather with friends, colleagues or dates to have their photos taken, which lessens the need for and expense of roving photographers. Some booths come with odd hats and props to make it a casual and fun experience, but it also can be an elegant and formal arrangement for the finely dressed, sophisticated crowd.

Guests enjoy the interactive experience, and companies can use these photos for event documentation or promotions. Better yet, many instant-share booths provide four-shot photo templates that display the pictures guests take within a frame that bears the company logo and/or event information. When printed out seconds after the being taken, the photos become an event-branded keepsake guests get to take home with them.
