Wine tastings for events: how and where
Host a wine tasting and leave the office or meeting behind to connect with colleagues in a fun, interactive setting or add elegance and sophistication to your next corporate event. Wine tastings have been popular in the private sector and in the corporate world for a while because the applications are diverse and accommodating for the goals of your particular function. Following are some ideas, but the possibilities are as endless as your imagination.

Host a formal event that pairs food with wines. It can be as elaborate and elegant as a five-course dinner with a different wine to complement each course, or it can be as simple as providing wines that complement various hors d’oeuvres, cheeses or chocolates as guests mingle in a reception atmosphere. These events are excellent for entertaining clients or networking because there is time for chatting about the wines and business while mingling between courses or different wines.

Alternatively, offer an expert-led wine tasting as a fun and educational appreciation event for employees or clients. Hire an expert sommelier to lead a horizontal or vertical tasting—horizontal means wines from one vintage but different grapes; vertical means wines from one grape but various vintages. Other educational wine experiences include systematically tasting samples of all the principal grape varieties, tasting wines from particular regions, focusing on wines grown through different methods, and tasting wines from the same grape made differently worldwide.

Also wine events are a great team-building tool for new staff or departments. Whether to promote corporate unity, to reinforce learning or to have some competitive fun, wine tastings can be customized to include all sorts of wine-based challenges and games that are not only fun but informative. Among them, teams can work together to identify characteristics of various wines or decipher the right wines from descriptions. You could even try an event where participants have to match cheeses with the correct wines.

Wine tastings also are great for raising money for charity. They usually attract a lot of attendees because it not only helps a good cause, but everyone gets a glass of wine or two as well. Add a raffle and other prizes to raise even more money for the chosen charity.

If hosting your own formal wine event seems beyond your reach, simply gather up colleagues and head to an open wine tasting at a local wine bar to wake up glassy-eyed conference goers and refresh their spirits. Many restaurants in Las Vegas boast excellent wine collections to complement your meal or privately booked event. The following are some of the top wine bars and restaurants featuring their wine.

Central Mich
el Richard: This new restaurant at Caesars Palace features two wine-focused spaces, a wine room to the left of the main entrance and a red wine room deeper into the restaurant. Both rooms have 13-foot-high ceilings, making them great event venues for corporate soirees.

D.O.C.G. Enoteca: Taking its name from the top classification for Italian wines—Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin)—the name D.O.C.G. fits the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas restaurant’s 3,000-bottle wine cellar stocked with more than 400 different regional wines.

Double Helix Wine and Whiskey Bar + Boutique: Whether you’re looking to reserve a few tables for a small group or the full bar for a large number, Double Helix is the place for wine events. The nearly 2,100-square-foot space features a circular lounge with more than 50 wines by the glass. All the wines are available in taste portions, glass servings or part of a customizable tasting flight.

d.vino: More than an authentic Italian dining experience, d.vino at the Monte Carlo Las Vegas Resort and Casino is all about the wines with an expansive menu listing more than 500 options. The wine bar also features a state-of-the-art, enomatic wine-dispensing system that allows guests to self-serve 18 wines in 1–5 oz. pours. The restaurant hosts regular tasting events with local cheese and wine experts.
