Henderson, Nev. (Sept. 16, 2010) – Loews Lake Las Vegas and South Shore Golf Club raised $26,000 for Las Vegas-area public schools at a charity golf tournament on September 9.

The event benefits local schools via an innovative web site called DonorsChoose.org, where teachers can post classroom needs ranging from pencils to computers to funding for field trips and more. The golf tournament was hosted by both Loews and the South Shore Golf Club and was supported by local companies such as Silverman Triathlon, Business Benefits and Trialogue.

“We’re very pleased to be able to help local schools,” said Brian D. Johnson, General Manager of Loews Lake Las Vegas. “This was a great effort on behalf of all of our partners out here at Lake Las Vegas, and it’s a sign of things looking up.”

This good news comes on the heels of the June announcement that a judge approved Lake Las Vegas’ plan to emerge from bankruptcy. The Lake Las Vegas development is on the road to recovery, and the Loews Lake Las Vegas continues to offer an exceptional customer experience.

The picturesque resort, which recently earned its 5th consecutive AAAFour Diamond Award, is situated on 21 acres of lakefront property with breathtaking views of the water and the surrounding mountains. It is also home to Marssa, a AAA Four Diamond contemporary Japanese and sushi restaurant, led by Osamu “Fuji” Fujita, one of only seven Master Sushi Chefs in the United States. A partnership with the exclusive South Shore Golf Club enables Loews’ guests to play the private course that was named one of the “Top 10 Private Courses” by Golf Digest when it opened in 1996.

Booking pace for conferences, conventions and leisure travel has increased year over year from 2009 to 2010.

Steve Pampinella, Vice President/Team Director for Conference Direct, has hosted three corporate meetings at the Loews Lake Las Vegas this year. “Our clients get the benefit of being in Las Vegas without the stigma of The Strip, and we get the convenience of the airport only 20 minutes away,” he said. “With all of the cutbacks from the down economy we have not seen any cutback in your service. Your food and beverage is still the best in town.”

Contact:
Jennifer Duffy, (520) 529-7936
jduffy@loewshotels.com
Henderson, NV (July 2010) On September 9th Loews Lake Las Vegas will team up with DonorsChoose.org at the exclusive Golf Club at SouthShore for the hotel’s Third Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit website where public school teachers post needs for funding for specific educational projects for their students, and donors can choose the projects they want to support.

To date, 123,000 public and charter school teachers have used the site to secure funding for $49.5 million in books, art supplies, technology, and other resources that their students need to learn. Through www.DonorsChoose.org, individuals from all walks of life have helped 3.1 million students, the majority from low-income areas. The average teacher spends $2,000-$3,000 of his/her own money for classroom needs.

Currently in Nevada there are 305 projects that still need to be funded. To date, Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort has given resources to 12,460 students (roughly $4,000) through contributions on the site.

Loews Hotels’ is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Good Neighbor Policy. The Good Neighbor Policy is the company's formal commitment to our long-standing tradition of understanding our responsibility to the communities where we own and operate hotels. Loews Hotels addresses various issues of social concern and supports charities corporately, and each destination is required to conduct specific activities.

Loews Lake Las Vegas Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament raised over $21,000 for a non-profit dedicated to preventing homelessness.

As the first hotel partner for DonorsChoose.org, the goal for Loews is to raise awareness of the charity by raising money within the communities in which we do business. Loews has partnered with Donors Choose in order to better serve the educational needs of Nevada students. The event kicks off with an 18-hole, 4-person scramble golf tournament, followed by an awards barbeque and silent auction. Entry into the tournament is $150 per golfer or $650 per foursome, and is limited to the first 144 entrants. Each entry includes green and cart fees, lunch, dinner and gifts provided by Titleist as well as vacation giveaways from other Loews Hotel properties. Major sponsors include Touchstone, ValleyCrest, and SteriTech. A variety of sponsorship opportunities are also available ranging from hole sponsors and auction donors to the title sponsor.
Henderson, NV (March 25, 2010) Loews Lake Las Vegas is pleased to announce a new partnership with the exclusive South Shore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas. This will be the first time Loews guests will be able to golf the acclaimed Jack Nicklaus designed course.

Named by Golf Digest when it debuted in 1996 as one of the “Top 10 Private Golf Courses in America” and known for sweeping views of Lake Las Vegas and the Loews Lake Las Vegas, the South Shore course will challenge and delight even the most accomplished golfers. With sweeping views of the lake and the surrounding natural environment, as well as unique opportunities to see wildlife, including the Desert Big Horn sheep, this Par 71 6,917 -yard course is an exclusive and exciting experience for both leisure and business guests.

LPGA tournament-winning professional golfer and South Shore Golf Club member Natalie Gulbis describes South Shore as a “player-friendly” course. Gulbis, who has owned a home at Lake Las Vegas for 9 years, recommends that her friends and family stay at the Loews when they come to visit her.

“The partnership between Loews and South Shore Golf Club is an amazing opportunity for visitors,” said Gulbis. “Every time I describe the experience to a friend and they stay, their experience actually supersedes everything I had told them. It’s just a beautiful place and an indescribable experience—and I always host my meetings there and make sure my guests have a drink on the Lotus Court at sunset so they can see the lake,” she added.

Within a chip shot of the hotel, the course features generous Bermuda fairways that frame gently rolling Bentgrass greens, 88 strategically placed bunkers and numerous forced carries over canyons and water creating both an exhilarating challenge and a visually stunning backdrop for golf. The layout’s unique topography includes course elevations ranging from 1,410 feet to 1,750 feet. While challenging enough to test the mettle of scratch golfers, five sets of tees on each hole help new and less experienced golfers enjoy the subtle nuances and design elements that have made Jack Nicklaus one of the most revered golf course architects in the world.
